A little about me...
My name is Juliana Treadwell and I have the privilege of being a part of the MDTA 2016 crew! During my first year of this course I will be a part of an awesome year two/three class at Tamaki Primary School with my highly knowledgeable mentor Sally Barlow. I'm super pumped for this crazy adventure and through this blog I hope you can live and learn vicariously with me and enjoy the experience as much as I am!

A dominant belief of Pakeha in New Zealand is that our tangata whenua need to get over the grievances of the past and move on as a culture to adapt into todays world. The quote "history is written by the victors" is highly relevant ideology in relation to this type of whakaaro. Pakeha have dictated history since they first arrived in New Zealand and at times this 'history' has been slightly misconstrued for personal benefit. However during Pat Snedden's inspiring talk this morning I realised that it was actually possible to back track and redefine history. Ngati Whātua were able to rewrite history and reclaim the land that had been unrightfully taken them and have since become empowered and the most successfully iwi in NZ. If we can allow our tangata whenua to speak out and regain what is rightfully theirs it will not only empower our Families and our students but also start the process of forgiveness and building towards a united multi-cultural nation.

Typically when I think of Excel or Spreadsheets I am transported back to high school computer labs and hours spent wasted inserting random data to create a graph about something I couldn't care less about, all I saw was the numbers and it meant nothing to me. However during todays digital immersion session I had to change my mindset so that I was able to get rid of those old thoughts and create new positive space for new potential. Google Sheets has so much potential for not only logging student achievement, but monitoring their learning, identifying strengths and weakness, facilitating their learning, as well as creating goals for where they are heading to next! Aside from the potential uses for students, it also has many innovative add ons that can make teachers lives so much easier and cut out time wasted on entering repetitive data which is ideal for all involved!

This is probably the tidiest our classroom will ever be for the whole year... but here it is.... Room Three 2016! After a crazy busy week last week with teacher only days, meeting the entire staff as well as collaboratively planning our class for this year we were finally ready to kick of the year on Tuesday! This week has been dedicated to getting to know the students, creating our classroom culture and prepping the learners for an exciting year ahead. It's been a full on week but now that we know our students and their specify interest we can continue to develop a long term plan for the year that caters to their needs, interests and abilities! Exciting times ahead, stay tuned!
